Quinn Still Supports Unions
(IRN)-Governor Pat Quinn says he’s for collective bargaining with state workers.

Comparing himself to the governor of Wisconsin, who wants to strip state workers of many of their union rights, Quinn says he's for the right of state workers to organize and to bargain with the state, though Quinn says he will have to do some tough bargaining with them this year over retirement and health care benefits.

"I look forward to a vigorous discussion with the unions that represent state workers," Quinn says. "I believe in the right to collectively bargain. I think that is really in the public interest."

But Anders Lindall of the union AFSCME points out that last year's pension reform was done by legislation, not through negotiation, and was pushed through over the objection of the unions.

Quinn says he was booed by the unions for three minutes for pushing through the pension changes, though he was supported by many of the unions in last year's election campaign.
