Young Marines Help VFW
The Young Marines in Galesburg has helped out the local VFW post in a big way.

The group held a food drive and collected items to donate for Christmas baskets over the holidays.

Two truck loads of food were donated, but money was collected during that drive as well, and as Senior Vice Commander Mike DeWitt tells WGIL, it was a nice surprise.

"We weren't aware of the money until actually after the food drive, and [they] got a hold of Mike Lummis, our command, and said we have some money for you we collected during the food drive, and as Mike said in there we thought it'd be a check for 50 dollars and they come in with a check for $544 and we were all shocked."

The Young Marines presented a ceremonial check to the VFW Thursday night just before their regular meeting.

DeWitt says money will give the VFW a big jump start for this year's Christmas basket program.
