Rural Schools Disagree with Quinn's Proposals
(IRN)-Rural education leaders are not happy with the governor's budget proposal.

Mercer Henderson Warren County Regional Supt. Jodi Scott says increasing per-pupil funding by 3 percent and promoting consolidation will be helpful, but those ideas will not result in more money for the classroom if transportation funding is cut.

"When you eliminate transportation funds, the Education Fund is the fund that supports that because we still have to get children to school. There's no way around that," she says.

Mercer County Supt. Alan Boucher says the increase in state aid won't help districts with declining enrollment get ahead, because funding is distributed per pupil.

The governor also wants to eliminate all regional offices of education.
