Darin LaHood to Replace Peoria State Senator
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Republican party leaders have chosen the son of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to replace a retiring state senator in Peoria.

Darin LaHood will assume the 37th District seat on Tuesday.
State Sen. Dale Risinger announced earlier this month that he wouldn't finish his term. He leaves office Monday.

LaHood says he's "humbled'" by the appointment. The 42 year old has called himself a fiscal conservative interested in budget issues. And he's said he'd run for election in 2012.

Barry Welbers, chairman of the Bureau County Republican Committee, says the selection of LaHood was unanimous.

He says LaHood will do a good job as state senator.
Risinger, who's 67 years old, says he's leaving office over the frustration of being a member of the minority party.
