Kirk Predicts No Shutdown
Illinois’ junior U.S. Senator is confident there won't be a government shutdown thanks to pending negotiations between the House and Senate.

"Mark Kirk says that Lawmakers in both chambers will work collaberatly on a measure to fund government operations. Kirk says senate republicans want cuts in the final plan, but how many cuts they get is unclear. 'My guess is that the house came in with sixty billion in cuts, the Senate came in with about 30 million in cuts and in typical congressional fashion, the final bill will be somewhere in between.' The meaure unveiled by house republicans late last week provides a little more than four billion dollars in cuts and would fund government operations for two weeks. Some democrats say that plan is headed in the right direction, but is not optimal.
