Numbers Up This Year at Polar Plunge
It was a chilly, rainy day for the 9th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge.

But that didn't stop participants from jumping into the freezing waters of Lake Story yesterday(Sunday) to raise money for the Special Olympics.

Area Director Cathy Betar tells WGIL all the numbers grew this year.

"I don't even know how many people we have had so far, I know we had 261 that pre-registered, we had some more that showed up today, and I know so far the total is over forty-thousand dollars, so that is awesome. Our goal was thirty-six thousand so it's the first year we've gotten over forty, last year it was over thirty-five, so very exciting, very awesome day."

21 teams dove into Lake Story from the returning Jimmy's Tire team to the Blue Gal Group from Galesburg Public Schools.

All was to benefit more than seven-hundred athletes in the Special Olympics in seven counties.
