Red Cross Left with Low Supplies After Blizzard
(IRN)-The snow storm is over, but the need for blood donations continues. Red Cross Spokeswoman Theresa Kuhlmann says donations have suffered in the last week.

"Just since Monday January 31, just in these few days…more than 1,000 donations have been cancelled as a result of the snow storm," said Kuhlmann. "And the situation continues to stress the Red Cross national blood supply for the more than 3,000 hospitals across the country that we take care of."

Kuhlmann says the Red Cross helped stranded motorists during the storm, and it's time for eligible donors to pay it forward.

"In Chicago alone, more than 360 people spent Tuesday night in a Red Cross shelter," she said. "And many of those were motorists who were stranded by the storm. So you can see how the Red Cross is there for people when they need help and at this point we're reaching out to eligible donors to come supply the blood for patients in need."

Kuhlmann says those who need blood donations don't get snow days. "So we're asking all eligible donors to either go out to redcrossblood.org or to call 1-800-RED-CROSS and to make an appointment to make a donation," she said.
