IDOT Has Done Its Job
(IRN)-The bulk of the snow removal effort on roads maintained by IDOT is over.

First, the National Guard has been called off, says Maj. Gen. William L. Enyart. There had been 550 National Guard members activated to help state police respond to crashes and stranded travelers, of which there were 270 and 3,400 respectively.

IDOT chief engineer Christine Reed says all major roads are open, though there is still work to be done clearing shoulders, ramps and turning areas. IDOT used 2,800 drivers in 1,600 trucks to clear 16,000 miles of interstate and state highways.

Gov. Pat Quinn was unable to estimate the cost of cleanup, though the Illinois Emergency Management Agency says the state might be able to apply for federal assistance, as may local cities and counties.
