Quinn Praising State Storm Response
(IRN)-Governor Pat Quinn is ladling out the accolades following this week's snowstorm.

The governor says the public, the state police, National Guard, IDOT and others put in performances that required stamina, bravery and selflessness.

"Maybe a couple of times in a whole century do we have a blizzard like we had this past week, and it took an all-out team effort on the part of the men and women of the state of Illinois, citizens as well as public servants, to work together to prevent tragedy," Quinn said.

Tragedy was prevented, with thousands of stranded travelers rescued from the roads by state police and the National Guard. There are stories of conservation police using snowmobiles to reach people who needed medical attention, including a stroke victim in Lake County.

Quinn says, however, there will be a review of what state agencies did to see if there were any lapses. The cost of the mobilization has not yet been tabulated.
