Cause of Galesburg House Fire Still Pending
The cause of a Galesburg house fire Sunday morning is still under investigation.

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to 1022 South Kellogg Street around 9:30 Sunday morning. Battalion Chief Todd Peterson says it didn't take long to control the blaze, but the home sustained heavy black smoke damage.

Although Peterson can't confirm it, a police report indicates the the structure fire may have been accidental and could have started in the computer room.

Police say there were five individuals asleep inside the residence at the time of the fire, including four children. They say they awoke and safely evacuated the house after hearing the smoke detectors go off.

According to Peterson, the floors were burning, but the flames did not produce much heat. He says firefighters easily vented the smoke and didn't have to use much of their water supply.

The Western Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross say their providing emergency aide to eight total people as they deal with the fire.
