City Council Talks Energy
The Galesburg City Council was, for lack of a better term, either plugged in or fired up for most of Monday night's work session.

Aldermen heard the results of their prioritization of goals they originally developed last summer, but spent most of Monday night's meeting talking about energy -- how to get people to use their energy to do things like volunteering, and what the progress is on the city's efforts to possibly save money on power bills by joining some sort of electricity cooperative.

Fourth Ward Alderman Corine Andersen says one form of energy needs to be harnessed now: youth.

"The youth is a resource that I don't think our community takes advantage of," she said. "A lot of students these days, high school students (and) college students, are very interested in volunteering for things."

Other areas included providing amenities for residents, marketing the city better, and providing a supportive business environment. Those were among the tops of 58 stated goals.

The city had proposed providing an action plan to the goals at a meeting in May, but several aldermen urged moving a lot faster than that.
