Board Member Against Galesburg School District's Strategic Plan
District 205 officials are labeling it as "Galesburg 20-20," but the so called "blueprint for the future" won't be receiving a blessing from one Galesburg school board member.

Robert Lindstrom says he's against formulating a new strategic plan for several reasons.

"One is I think this proposal is irrelevevant to our mission as a school district," Lindstrom said. "I think the timing is terrible, I think the cost is way too expensive, and I think we have better alternative to acomplish the strategic planning with a lot less money."

And that alternative is to refine the current plan that was developed in 2007.

Lindstrom says it's well drafted and wouldn't cost the district the proposed $35,000-dollars to hire three consultants from North Carolina. He calls it a "waste of money."

Assistant Superintendent Guy Cahill says two of them have prior consultation experience in Illinois, and more importantly, work in a state that just landed Caterpillar's next manufacturing plant.

Cahill says that's relevant because the new strategic plan will focus on attracting new businesses and residents to the Galesburg school district.

District officials will update the board on the plan's progress in March.
