Orpheum Electrical Upgrades Complete
When the Orpheum Theatre's Red Carpet series officially kicks off again Sunday afternoon with a performance of "Doubt: A Parable," it'll look a lot better than past performances.

Orpheum Operations Manager Josh Damewood told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday that Mangieri Electric completed the upgrades to the stage and house lighting at the theatre last week.

Damewood says all parts of the theatre are improved and it should now look different.

"We have scheduled a walk-through Friday morning at 9:30am," Damewood said. "All of the lights in the theatre have been changed to L-E-D, the chandelier in the lobby has been improved."

The lights are more energy efficient and aren't nearly as hot as normal lights.

The Theatre is paying 125-thousand dollars for the work -- 100-thousand in the form of a federal economic stimulus grant administered through the Western Illinois Regional Council, and another 25-thousand from the theatre's fundraising efforts.

C-C-A members also voted to pay Quad Cities-based K-J-W-W over 52-thousand dollars to do engineering services on the second part of the project: upgrading heating and air conditioning at the theatre, which will happen in the summer.
