Galesburg VFW Sponsoring a Different Kind of D.C. Trip
The Quartermaster at Galesburg's V-F-W Post says planning is underway for a week-long trip in October to Washington D.C.

Mike Lummis says the post formed a committee to plan a trip more involving than the traditional one-day "honor flight" to D.C. And this trip isn't only for veterans. Lummis encourages the public to sign up too.

As for the week of October 14th, Lummis tells the WGIL Morning News it wasn't selected by accident.

"That's only about three weeks before the election," he said. "So we're hoping that D.C. will be a little bit more quiet, and, of course, all of our candidates will probably be home in their home districts, touting their re-elections.

"So we're hoping the timing of that is such that the crowds are down a little bit."

Lummis says a minimum of 30 people must sign up, with a maximum of 54 people allowed. The price ranges from $1,720 for singles, down to $875 for foursomes. This includes charter bus transportation and hotel arrangements.

For the veterans who do decide to participate, Lummis hopes a full week of site seeing in the nation's capital won't be as physically demanding as the honor flights.
