District 205 Dedicating Facility to Late Radio Personality and Education Icon
A renovated Lombard Middle School Auditorium will be dedicated to a local legend who died of cancer almost two years ago.

The District 205 Board of Education this week approved the naming of the building as the "Jack Larson Memorial Auditorium."

Galesburg Businessman Dick Lindstrom co-hosted a radio show with Larson and his own father, Dean Lindstrom, on WGIL until 2000. Lindstrom says Larson meets all the qualifications for naming district properties after local leaders.

"No individual is beyond critique of life," Lindstrom said. "But in the case of Jack Larson, the entire package of public service, particularly relating to District 205 students-- such as in (his) shoe project, thousands of shoes, (and) GHS and junior high band support. Jack stood out as advocate for their, the students, needs."

Lindstrom says he and others reviewed signed pages of a request for the dedication and determined it would be a "no-brainer" to name the facility after Larson.

Superintendent Gene Denisar says it's a great honor for Larson. He says there there will be a ceremonial dedication once the renovations are completed in the fall of 2013.
