Stores Asked to Share Their Retail Stories
A grand prize of $25,000 and a trip to Washington D.C. awaits whichever retail worker in America can best define what retail means to them in a two minute video.

Ellen Davis is a Galesburg native and the Vice President for National Retail Federation. She says the competition is to recognize the 42 million people who work in retail every day.

Davis tells the WGIL Morning News there's more diversity in the retail industry than just the person behind the counter.

"What we realized is is that it's important for us to tell our story and there's no better way to tell that story than the people who are working in retail everyday," Davis said. "That could be people who work in a retail store, people who own a store, of course, started a small business."

"They're a lot of people in our industry that are involved in design, and manufacturing and advetising, and real estate. They're a lot of other industries within our group that many people don't think about."

Davis says the companies don't enter into the contest, the individual worker does, and it doesn't matter how big or small that role in retail is.

Videos must be submitted online by March 16th. Other submission parameters can be found on the official website: "retailmeansjobs.com/contest."
