Mayor Wants Liquor at Lake Storey Pavilion
Galesburg's top elected official may finally be accepting of something that's been requested, and rejected, often over the years.

Mayor Sal Garza told a Galesburg City Council work session this week he'd like to see an ordinance allowing liquor at the Lake Storey Pavilion on a per-event basis.

Garza says he believes allowing liquor sales per event could bring some money into Galesburg, and he hopes aldermen feel the same way.

"Hopefully within the next couple months we'll have some level of amendment or maybe a brand new ordinance that we'll bring to the council's attention," Garza said. "(It'd be) for their final determination to see whether or not this is something they can add value or something that they would see fit to approve."

Such an idea has been floated repeatedly over the years, with virtually no success. Garza is now using his new Liquor Advisory Commission to work out the details.

Garza this week said he also wants to name a street after Martin Luther King, Junior in time for next year's King Day celebration, and that his new naming committee is already looking into that, and which street to pick.
