Land Parcel Sales Back Before City Council
The Galesburg City Council will try again to sell two parcels of land that were to be used as part of a larger development effort.

Aldermen Monday night will consider selling the two tracts of land the city owns that are in the 500 block of West First Street to Oletha Wallace and her husband.

The two were technically the higher bidders of the two parcels that aldermen originally awarded to the C-I-L-A Homes Partnership, fronted by the owners of Saint Mary's Square Living Center, as they were to build a group home for some of the Square's clients on.

Oletha Wallace told aldermen two weeks ago her family had been taking care of the land since the city started owning it.

Since then, and since Mayor Sal Garza and others blamed the media for how the property sale was reported, C-I-L-A has withdrawn their bids.

The city says they'd receive 12-hundred dollars from the Wallaces for the land versus about half that from C-I-L-A.

Aldermen Monday will also consider a bid for some fire department promotional testing services -- something they rejected a version of last month -- when they meet at 6:30 Monday evening in council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
