Knoxville Likes Cooperative Purchasing Idea
The services of a national governmental purchasing cooperative will now be in the city of Knoxville's repertoire when it comes to soliciting bids.

The city council Monday night agreed by an unanimous vote to sign on with The Cooperative Purchasing Network, or T-C-P-N, which doesn't require any sign-on fees.

T-C-P-N Representative Mike Grade says the Texas-based company seeks the best services, products, and pricing of commonly purchased commodities.

"And then at that time, our board of directors in Region IV awards the contract," Grade said. "And then by the joint powers agreement in the state of Illinois, as well as 49 of the 50 states in the U.S., our member agencies are then able to buy off any of those contracts that we offer, without having to go to bid themselves."

With over 300 vendors competitively bidding, Grade says the cooperative purchasing saves time and money for the consumer entities.

He says vendors don't mind paying a small service fee to T-C-P-N because they have access to over 22,000 member agencies to bid with.

According to Grade, there's no strings attached with any vendor and the city of Knoxville can continue purchasing specific products from specific local vendors if they so choose.

In other business Monday evening, alderman agreed to raise the wheel tax to $10-dollars for cars, trucks and SUV's, and to issue a Class-B Liquor License to the Tripower BP Gas Station off Knox Highway-10 near Interstate-74.
