New Boilers a Pleasant Sight
The completion of a five week project in the basement of the county courthouse has raised optimism for the costs of future energy bills.

Two boilers has been replaced in the Knox County Circuit Courthouse, replacing one that County Board Chair Greg Bacon says was 60 years old. He took a look at the new running boilers last week and says he liked what he saw.

"Everything was done, he was just wrapping some insulation on the pipes," Bacon said. "Only one boiler was running, and it was not running at full throttle yet. It wasn't calling for the other one to work yet, it wasn't cold enough in the building for it to work."

"So we can expect significant savings in our gas bill."

Bacon says the project cost around $215,000, almost half of which is being earned through a state grant.

According to Bacon, the boilers' installation was under budget by $140,000. He says that will roll over towards other interior and exterior work in the $3-million dollar renovation project of the courthouse.

The county board approved another payment to the contractor Wednesday night, and also approved replacing yet another boiler-- this time at the Knox County Nursing Home.

Nursing Home Committee Chair Lyle Johnson says it will cost around $156,000.
