Final Five in Search for Community College President
A local community college is now in the final stages of trying to find a new president, and one current employee along with a former one are on the short list.

Canton-based Spoon River College Thursday announced the five candidates their Board of Trustees have selected to become the college's eighth president.

Two of which are familiar with the college. Carol Davis is currently the Vice President of Community Outreach, and has worked in other roles at the college over the years.

Another, is Curt Oldfield. The current Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northeast Iowa Community College is a former Dean of Instruction at Spoon River College, and also once taught agriculture in the former Roseville School District.

The college says among the other candidates is Dr. Econ Walters, CEO of a community college campus in Long Island, New York; Doctor Nancy Fair-Szofran, who is a vice president at a community college in Portland, Oregon; and Doctor Kay Adkins, a graduate of several Illinois institutions and president of a college in California.

Spoon River College officials say interviews will take place between next Wednesday and March 28th, and at each interview, each candidate will tour both the Canton and Macomb campuses, and public forums will be held via video conference at each campus.

The final selection will replace the retiring Doctor Robert Ritschel, but college officials say new applications will still be considered.
