Architect, Others, Share Ideas with Library Committee
An Aurora-based architect firm and two real estate enthusiasts presented their sales pitch to the Galesburg Public Library at yesterday's construction committee meeting.

On the architectural side of things, two representatives from Cordogan, Clark, and Associates didn't discuss many details. They spoke to the committee on the importance of designing a building for the next 75 years.

Chair Mike Kroll says Thursday was a step in planning a future forum for the community to weigh in on the designs themselves.

"(The plan is to) see what kind of ideas we can get from architects, (then) choose from the best of those ideas to invite people to come here to an open forum, where the community will get a chance to see it and participate and see what's going on," Kroll said.

"And (then) use that as our guide so we see how feasible all of this might be, and get some ideas of interesting plans that may have never occurred to us, as ways for us to pursue this."

The library is looking to acquire four properties in the 200 block of West Main Street to build a new library as early as next year.

In doing so, the committee is considering help from either Monmouth Realtor Sky Houston, or Local Attorney Barry Barash. Both shared their perspectives on acquiring the land yesterday.

Houston is proposing a $100 an hour rate, with a 4% commission on final sales. Barash says he'll work for free, but needs a $1 million budget. An executive decision will be made on them next week.
