Knox County Employees Now Have a Say with Insurance
County employees will now be able to recommend particulars for their health insurance coverage.

The Knox County Board last week approved the formation of an Insurance Advisory Committee, aimed at giving union workers a say-so in plans and premium costs.

County Board Chair Greg Bacon tells WGIL it's the first step in giving county employees who utilize the coverage more power over the programs available.

"So that's what the committee's for," Bacon said. "It's just an advisory committee right now, to look at things, different things, to see what they want, what they don't use, what we don't need, and stuff like that."

The county board will appoint one of its members to be the Chairman of the committee-- which will be comprised of department heads and other county workers not actively engaged in collective bargaining.

According to the Insurance Advisory Committee's guidelines and objectives, all decisions made will be non-binding and must be reviewed by the Finance Committee.

County board members Paul Stewart and Pam Davidson say encouraging county employees to provide their input on health insurance is a plus for the working environment.
