Strategic Plan Formation Rejected by Galesburg School Board
The Galesburg School District will have to somehow figure out how it wants to move forward with the forming of a strategic plan, now that the board has said no thanks to the way the district wanted to do it.

The District-205 board voted three-to-four during a special meeting Monday night against spending 35-thousand dollars on the formation of the plan, which would also have helped the district determine how more businesses and residents can be recruited into the district.

District-205 Superintendent Gene Denisar tells WGIL it's a shame the board rejected the plan, because the North Carolina firm in question knows its stuff.

"He has an incredible resume, it's just incredible," Denisar said. "Plus he has done a great deal of work in a number of school districts in Illinois. So he does know something about the economic climate in Illinois, and some of the issues and needs that we have."

Denisar says he can take solace in the fact that two of the board members said they were voting no on the proposal "for now" -- which Denisar says would have allowed a local committee to crunch the firm's statistics, and would have actually helped form the plan.

But for now, there will be no discussion on the strategic plan at the March regular board meeting.
