Youth Commission Tasked with Trying to Address a City Council Goal
The Galesburg Youth Commission says it's ready to help the city figure out how to better serve youth.

Providing more youth-friendly services and activities is something the city council seemed to favor in a recent work session, and the Youth Commission has been tasked with working on how that can be done.

Fifth Ward Alderman Peter Schwartzman, speaking at a recent commission meeting for Mayor Sal Garza, says while the Commission is being asked to take the lead, they're not the only ones who will work on this.

"Understanding that it's not going to done alone, but (in) recognizing that in cooperation with other agencies, and other commissions perhaps, there can be something that can be created or even enhanced by this summer," he said.

The Youth Commission is slated to meet next week to discuss the matter and hold some training.

But Commission members say they are ready to step up and help. The City's Community Relations Commission Chair, John Hunigan, also told the Youth Commission that they want to form a partnership on the matter as well.
