Ameren Offering Help for Past Due Balances
Ameren Illinois customers with outstanding balances can establish a repayment plan without having their electricity shut off.

Ameren Spokesperson Leigh Morris says eligible customers can make a 10-percent down payment on their past due utility bills until March 31st.

He encourages customers not to ignore the problem and to give Ameren a call at 1-800-755-5000. Morris says it's not worth letting your electric bill get out of control.

"The worst thing you can do is, simply, ignore a bill that you can't pay," Morris said. "Our customer service people want to help you, that's what they're trained to do, that's what they're here to do, but you have to reach out and give us a call.

"We'll work with ya, and get something in the end that's workable for the customer, and we'll keep your lights on and the gas flowing."

Morris says if an assistance program isn't established by the last day in March, then a 25-percent down payment must be made. Otherwise, he says service is subject to disconnection on April 2nd.

Morris says the monthly repayment plans will be paid in conjunction with all regular billing.
