City Wants to Work with Indonesia
The City of Galesburg is trying to expand a relationship with a country that has seen at least one representative come to Galesburg already.

The City announced late Tuesday afternoon in a press release that the city will meet with two officials from Indonesia in the coming weeks.

In one instance, city officials say the mayor and Global Strategies Director Gary Camarano will meet with the Deputy Governor of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on March 7th.

On March 15th, city officials and staff from the Entrepreneurs, Business, and Industry network will meet with the Governor of the Indonesian city of South Sumatra.

Both meetings will be held in Chicago.

The city says trade relations, foreign direct investment, and possibly becoming sister cities will be among the topics of discussion.

Camarano says in the press release that the city wants to take advantage of, quote, "a real opportunity for us to talk with a rapidly growing marketplace."

Mayor Sal Garza says he believes the cultural exchanges will also be important.

The Consul General of Indonesia came to Galesburg last September to make a speech at the Sustainable Business Center, among other activities.
