No Real Estate Help for Library Construction Plan
The Galesburg Public Library Board has so far received no help from any real estate agent in the area in regards to purchasing property ahead of the building of a new library.

Library board members Thursday learned that the board received no response from its Request for Proposals of a month ago. The library wants to purchase property in the area of the old Super 8 on West Main, in advance of possibly constructing a new facility there.

Board member David McDonald says maybe it's that no real estate agents could help.

"This is a little bit too complicated for most of them, I mean it was well stated, it was very clearly stated in my opinion," he said. "But, I think they wanted something more definite stated, where it says we're going to get 'x'-percent for everything we get."

Library Director Harriet Zipfel doesn't want the board to try and do the property acquisition work on its own for fear the board will burn out from it.

Several board members will talk to some real estate agents to determine if there was something wrong in their proposal.

In the meantime, a meeting is being set up with the Galesburg School District to determine what the board can learn from promotion District-205's Master Facilities Plan and how a one-percent sales tax increase was passed by voters.
