Lawmaker Proposes More Help for First Responders
A local lawmaker says he wants to help more of the first responders in the state in the coming year.

State Representative Don Moffitt says balancing a budget in May is priority number one for every lawmaker, or at least it should be. But outside of that, Moffitt says he introduced a number of bills at the start of last week's Spring legislative session he hopes get considered this year.

Moffitt tells WGIL one of those deals with firefighters.

"One of them is working with (the) Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, which is commonly known as MABAS, to give them some additional statutory provisions for them, to even possibly go across state lines," Moffitt said.

Moffitt says there will be a number of other items he will want to have come up as well, but hasn't yet gotten into specifics.

Moffitt says he is ready to hear Governor Pat Quinn's budget address in a couple of weeks, to see how much more work he can do.
