Aluminum Castings Corp. Expands, Doubling Production and Workforce
UPDATED 2:35pm 2/6/12 A longtime Galesburg business with clients like Peoria-based Caterpillar and Neponset-based Martin Engineering is looking to expand in a big way.

The city and Aluminum Castings Corporation formally announced Monday that it's almost complete adding a nearly 12-thousand square foot addition, is in the process of adding new equipment so that it can double production, and it's nearly doubling its workforce over the next two years.

Aluminum Castings president Bret Markum tells WGIL the company's purchase last year by a Peoria-based firm made the expansion almost necessary.

"We've started to become very aggressive in the marketing of the business," Markum said. "We've become very aggressive in the amount of money we're spending on modernizing and increasing our floor space. Our business is up about 50-60% over last year."

City of Galesburg Global Strategies Director Gary Camarano tells WGIL expect to hear more of this type of news very soon.

"I can't name specific parties, but we're starting to see a trend among our manufacturing facilities, and I think we'll see more expansion -- job retention, as well as expansion.," Camarano said. "We're very excited about it."

Aluminum Castings' expansion at their South Street facility should be complete in mid-March with new equipment being moved into place after that. Markum says 16 to 26 new jobs should be added gradually over the next two years.
