| Bidding Process Outlined for District 205's First Remodeling Phase |
An informational meeting divulging the bidding specifics for phase one of the 10-Year Master Facilities Plan was held for local and regional subcontractors Tuesday morning. Phase One of Operation Rebuild Achievement includes remodeling first to Galesburg's Lombard Middle School, then Steele Elementary, and finally, Galesburg High School. Davenport-based Russell Construction is bidding out each package to individual contractors. Project Manager Chad White tells WGIL his firm has advertised the work locally, but also in the Quad Cities and Peoria too.
"Some packages are very tune to what's happeneing here in Galesburg, the flooring, the finishes, and those kinds of things," White said. "Other things like elevators, may be something specialized and we need to get a bid from somewhere else, and that sort of thing."
So that's why we're advertising in a few different markets to make sure that we get good bids, a number of bids, so we have good competition and the best dollar value for the school district in the end."
The first bid package for Lombard will be released Thursday and includes Window replacement, fire suppression, and well field building. Those bids are due February 23rd. Bids for a second package will be released in mid March. White says the total value in construction for the $11.3 million-dollar project should be known by mid-April. As part of the bidding requirements, subcontractors must provide qualification statements, submit a non-refundable deposit, and undergo background checks. |
