Trial Begins for Man Accused of Sex Abuse
A Galesburg man is now officially on trial for allegedly committing sexual acts first learned about last year, but occurring over several years prior to that.

A bench trial started Wednesday for 28 year old Calvin Williams. He faces felony counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

The trial stopped and started several times yesterday, with more time spent in recess than hearing testimony.

Galesburg Police Department Detective Todd Olinger testified he attempted to interview Williams on the day of his arrest last April, but couldn't because he asked for a lawyer.

Olinger said at previous hearings, though, that the nine-year-old girl's mother -- 26-year old Angel Holloway -- received a letter in December of 2011 from the girl claiming Williams abused her, but she threw it away.

Holloway didn't go to authorities until last April. She faces charges of Child Endangerment and Permitting the Sexual Abuse of a Child, and will be back in court next month.

DCFS investigator Kelli Morland was also called to testify, but that was cut short after Harrell presented evidence the prosecutors had not received.

The bench trial won't continue until February 27th. If testimony isn't done then, the case could continue March 9th.
