Monmouth-Roseville School Board Briefed On Safety
The Monmouth-Roseville school board met Tuesday night and was given updates on the state of safety in the district.

District 238 has been working toward leaning less on the state financially, given it's current fiscal climate, by issuing working cash bonds for operational expenses.

Given recent national events, the district has decided it's in their best interest to be prepared for a possible deadly shooter situation.

Superintendent Ed Fletcher tells WGIL that he has already met with his administrators to go over safety policy.

"I discussed with them the possibility of purchasing some additional radios and I just had a meeting today with the Chief of Police just to find out what our crisis plans are and to better coordinate with the City of Monmouth," says Fletcher.

The district required the administrators to conduct drills with their staff for a possibly deadly incident.

Fletcher tells WGIL there were updates provided to the board at Tuesday's meeting.

"I updated them on what steps we had taken internally since the time of the tragedy in Connecticut and just went through those items with them and basically wanted to ask if they had any additional questions or thoughts regarding what we had done," says Fletcher.

The district also decided to add a position for grades K-9 in the hopes of introducing technology into the curriculum.

The technology curriculum coordinator will be responsible for helping train teachers and students on using technology in the classroom.
