CASA Walks For Children
The biggest fundraiser of the year for the Court Appointed Special Advocates worked the floor of Carl Sandburg Mall on Saturday.

CASA works to help abused or neglected children in the court system and were looking to raise money to continue their cause.

More than 30 people were present for the walk - which saw prizes awarded and donations received.

CASA Executive Director Hannah Malley tells WGIL that they're always looking for more volunteers.

"It's very difficult to spend the time to train those advocates because it is very time intensive, they do participate in about 30 hours of initial training and so right now we have two training sessions per year and we would love to have more than that so we can train more advocates," says Malley.

CASA typically raises over 7-thousand dollars in sponsorship funds. Malley tells WGIL that children in the court system are in need.

"We're looking for more advocates, but as always, we need more funding so we can provide the training and we do support the advocates once they complete the training and are assigned to a case," says Malley.

Many of those closest to the organization began walking from department store to department store inside the mall to raise awareness.

The organization has 27 advocates assigned to 55 cases, currently. Malley says they would like a single volunteer for each of the cases they deal with.
