Schools Compete for 2013 Geography Bowl Title
Sandburg Mall played host Saturday to this year's Geography Bowl, where eight elementary teams and four junior high teams competed to be called this year's champs.

The elementary school division competed early in the day with King Elementary sweeping the competition.

For the Junior High competition Churchill walked away with most points and most wins.

For Lombard eighth grader Drake Legge this will be his last competition and he was hoping this year's team would be able to edge out the competition.

He tells WGIL it's all about pacing yourself so you make sure you have your best players left at the table towards the end.

"We know each other's strengths and weaknesses; so, it's good to have a team you can rely on. If you don't know the answer, you know someone on the team has the answer," Legge said. "It doesn't matter how good you are. Once you answer three questions, you're out. So, you've got to have people who can be able to answer the questions after you are, and can either get back in or get somebody else in."

Lombard beat out Knoxville in the first round but ended up in second place once final scores came in.

Legge, who graduates this year, says his geography bowl career isn't over. He plans on participating in other scholastic bowls in high school.
