Celebrating Locally-Grown Food
This marks the time of year where you've likely earned all the money you'll need to pay for your entire food supply all year, and agriculture is helping you celebrate.

The Knox County Farm Bureau marked "Food Check-Out Week" today with a Food Check-Out Race at the Henderson Street Hy-Vee store -- two groups competing to get an assigned list of groceries in five-minutes or less -- all using ingredients made in agriculture.

A special emphasis was given on foods containing ingredients made from corn. Farm Bureau Manager Kelly Rollins tells WGIL corn has gotten some bad publicity lately -- specifically, corn sugar.

"What we're really showing is that corn sugar is really no different from cane sugar. You're body breaks it down in the exact same way and that's what we're really trying to show out here is that corn sugar is no different from cane sugar," says Rollins.

Rollins says in addition, it's just a good time to thank local farmers for producing so much of the nation's food supply.

She says that's just in addition to many farmers who are also businessmen, mechanics, and have many other roles.
