Monmouth Home Total Loss in Tuesday Fire
FIRST REPORTED 11:30am 2/19/13 A home located at 215 West Franklin street in Monmouth is being called a total loss after a morning fire Tuesday.

The Monmouth Fire Department responded to the scene of a house fire around 8am Tuesday that according to the homeowner started in the bathroom.

When firefighters arrived on the scene there was moderate smoke inside the structure.

Firefighters believed there was still one person inside the home but upon entering confirmed all the residents had made it out.

Monmouth Assistant Fire Chief Pat Spears tells WGIL the fire department ran into unexpected complications once they started to put the fire out.

"When we started getting a knock on the fire, we ran out of water," Spears said. "We have poor water supply in the area. So, we called in assistance from the rural departments. The fire then ventilated through the roof, and flashed over the first floor of the residence."

Spears says at that point they started to approach the fire defensively.

He says the weather and the wind made combating the fire even more difficult.

Makeshift water tanks were created to pump water into the home.

The American Red Cross was on the scene to assist the family.

There were no injuries to the residents, however, officials say the family's three cats were lost in the fire.
