City Officials Brace for Winter Storm
All week we've been talking about a snow storm that's supposed to dump between 3 to 5 inches of snow on Knox County and the surrounding areas.

Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins tells WGIL the best thing people can do is get their errands done early and once you're home, stay there.

"The thing we've had some issues with in the past is just keeping people off the streets, we're hoping they go out early [Thursday] and get all of their shopping done," says Simkins.

Simkins says they'd like people to really limit their travel if they can so street crews can get out and effectively get the streets cleaned on Thursday night and Friday morning.

He also would like to remind people that if we get two or more inches of snow, the city will issue a snow emergency and cars are not to be parked on the streets.

"With the timing of the snow, it may happen overnight, but people may want to think about what they're going to do with their vehicle," says Simkins.

If your car is on the street on an emergency route, it can be ticketed.

Simkins says the ultimate goal is to give people enough warning so they can make arrangements for parking and try to keep the streets car free.
