|United Way Gets Close to Fundraising Goal
|POSTED 2:40pm 2-1-13 In the end, they were close.
The Knox County United Way announced Friday at their annual meeting that the 2012-2013 fundraising campaign raised more money than last year at just over $367,000. But Executive Director Ann Tucker says the organization ended at 97-percent of their goal.
For Tucker, she says a victory is still a victory.
"You keep hoping for the best. You have faith in our community. You have faith in your donors. You have faith in the new people that you are reaching," Tucker said. "This year, I believe, we did that. We have many success stories. We had new donors, we had new individuals we were speaking to. We went to a couple new places. That's all progress for us and success for us."
The United Way also handed out awards to businesses and people who helped the organization. One went to Judy Guenseth for serving as a campaign chair for two years in a row. The "Guy Vitale Award" went to Ed and Helen Bantz for a large amout of time they spent volunteering in the past year.
WGIL, Kohl's Diamond Gallery, F-and-M Bank, and others were also among those recognized by the United Way.
