CSC Security Hire May Improve Safety
Given recent national events, Carl Sandburg College decided to be proactive in their next security hire.

The College had advertised a posting for Director of Public Safety, but the Board of Trustees at the college waited until their December meeting to make the hire official.

Supervisor of Neighborhood Enhancement with the Galesburg Police Department Kip Canfield took the spot at Carl Sandburg.

Canfield tells WGIL that, from a security standpoint, we are seeing some different things in the world.

"In the U.S. a lot of school shootings and things like that and we're really taking a different step toward awareness," says Canfield. "Not only with students, but with faculty administration and staff."

Canfield saw 20 years of experience as a retired Sergeant with the Galesburg Police Department.

Carl Sandburg College received 10 applications for the posting.

Canfield went on to say that he will update the college's safety plan so that, in the case of a deadly incident, students know what to do.

The college will also look to providing education to their students in possibly violent situations.
