Police Investigate Galesburg Bank Robbery
UPDATED 5:01pm 3/11/09 Galesburg Police aren't yet releasing too many details, but they want the public's help in capturing a man who is believed to have attempted to rob a local bank branch.

Police say an attempted bank robbery took place Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 at the Galesburg Banking Center located in the 600 block of West Main Street. Police say a black male suspect displaying a silver automatic handgun demanded money. The suspect, who shortly after demanding money fled northbound from the bank, is described to be a black male in his late-teens or twenties in age, wearing a grey hoodie, dark mask and dark pants, while having a dark color backpack.

Witnesses tell police they believe the suspect may have been in a green Pontiac. Investigators believe no money was taken from the bank during the robbery attempt. Galesburg Police say they, in collaboration with the Illinois State Police, continue to talk to witnesses and develop evidence from the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the attempted robbery at the banking center are asked to call the Galesburg Police Department at 343-9151 or the Galesburg Area Crimestoppers at 344-0044.
