Local Congressman Wants More Small Business Help
A Congressman representing a portion of Knox County says, he's concerned about small businesses, and how they are or aren't being benefited by the latest economic stimulus package.

18th District Republican Aaron Schock told reporters during a conference call that he's looked into provisions in the federal stimulus package that would help small businesses.

The Peoria resident says after hearing from a number of small business owners, more must be done to help them, including those owned by veterans.

"There's a goal Congress has set that 3 percent of all federal contracts would go to veteran owned businesses and that was set almost ten years ago and we're at 1-point-four percent."

Schock says he's ready to craft legislation that would require government agencies to met that three-percent goal. He says he also wants to make sure that a percentage of the stimulus money to small businesses.

Schock was made ranking member of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and Technology, which held its first hearing Thursday.
