Good News for Springfield, Bad News for Southern Illinois
They won't be state government traffic safety jobs, but the Illinois Department of Transportation still hopes to hire some people in Southern Illinois.

IDOT Secretary Gary Hannig says Governor Pat Quinn's decision to keep the nearly 100 traffic safety division jobs in Springfield rather than move them to Harrisburg as ordered last year by former Governor Rod Blagojevich was the right decision.

But he says Southern Illinois could win some engineer or other staff jobs, if state lawmakers pass a multi-billion dollar building and construction budget this spring.

Hannig says that region would likely need staff to be able to set about building roads, bridges and schools. He also says the Quinn Administration hopes to hire some people at other agencies with offices in Southern Illinois.
