NAEIR Puts One Of Their Buildings Up For Sale; Is Not Out of Business
A Galesburg-based non-profit organization that owns two buildings is putting one of them up for sale.

The National Association for the Exchange of Industrial Resources, or NAEIR, has had its West Fremont Street distribution center up for sale for the better part of a week and a half, and its CEO, Gary Smith, also Galesburg's Mayor, says operations will be consolidated into the firm's home base on McClure Street in the former OMC building.

Smith tells WGIL NAEIR has simply figured out a way to store the supplies it distributes to other not-for-profits in a cheaper manner. "Primarily, due to a new racking system that our distribuition center that our people have come up with...has allowed us about, at least, 20-percent more space," Smith said. "We have approximately a million linear feet of rack in the 450,000 square foot warehouse here at 560 McClure."

Smith says now NAEIR is able to essentially stack an increased number of goods higher in the McClure Street warehouse, better using the space it has.

Smith says the move is also partly due to the economy -- he says costs are being cut as less product donations are coming in, and distribution of goods out is somewhat less.

NAEIR, he says, is NOT closing, and other than open positions not being filled, layoffs just aren't happening.
