National Main Street Conference Being Held in Chicago
The annual National Main Streets Conference is drawing a crowd of over 1,500 people this week in Chicago.

The 2009 conference is focusing on using technology when revitalizing a downtown area. Participants have a chance to attend a handful of the 88 educational sessions and tours.

Gov. Pat Quinn delivered the welcoming address to participants Monday. He told the crowd that Main Street programs are an important tool that communities can use to get people back to work.

Under Quinn's leadership as a Lt. Governor, Illinois Main Street program grew to become the fourth largest Main Street program in the nation. Illinois' program has spurred the reinvestment of $575 million in Main Street downtowns.

The national conference runs through March 4th.
