United Way Offers Prescription Drug Discount Cards
One local organization wants to save area residents money on their prescription drug costs. The United Way of Knox County is trying to lower the costs of prescription medication for those who cannot afford the medicine or do not have health insurance.

The organization has introduced the "Familywize" prescription drug card that could lower your health care drug costs by 35 percent. Executive Director of the United Way of Knox County, Ann Tucker, says they are in partnership with many United Way Chapters across the country who have accepted this plan into their communities already.

Tuckers tells WGIL the card will not only help out those without insurance but those who have coverage as well. "The good thing is that the card is accepted at any pharmacy," Tucker said. "I did check with our local pharmacies; they all will accept the card. You don't have to have insurance to use the card. In fact, if you do have insurance, you can still use the card and get a lower rate."

Tucker says too many people have insufficient coverage and need medications not covered by their insurance, Medicare, Medicaid or their VA benefits.

The "Familywize" prescription drug discount card can be obtained from all KMart Pharmacies, Walgreens, and all other participating local pharmacies or by calling the United Way of Knox County.
