Deaths Following December 2008 Fire Ruled Accidental
The deaths of a Galesburg man and his son last December after a fire broke out in their home have been ruled accidents. Those were the findings of a Knox County Coroner's Jury Tuesday night in the deaths of 30-year old D'Andre Price and his four year old son Tyrice Price.

Galesburg Police Special Investigator Robert Schwartz, testified that a fire broke out in the 1300 block of South Kellogg Street just after 9:30 on the morning of December 16th last year. He says upon arrival, fire fighters were met with very heavy and thick smoke, so much so, they couldn't even enter the structure at the time. Schwartz said that there may have been flashover present during the fire -- meaning, anything could have ignited.

Both of the Prices were found in a bedroom in the residence that wasn't burned but had heavy smoke damage. Schwartz said D'Andre Price's fiancee had been using a clothes dryer for nearly three hours before the fire began, and says that may have been a factor in the blaze. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.

An autopsy on the victims found toxic levels of carbon monoxide in both of them, along with soot deep in both their airways.

The coroner's jury ruled that the deaths of the two were accidental due to smoke inhalation and the high levels of carbon monoxide present at the time of death.
