Illinois Lawmakers Discussing Ways to Jumpstart Economy
State lawmakers face more bad news: Another 37,000 Illinoisans lost jobs last month.

Senate Minority Leader Christine Rodogno (R-Lemont) and House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) hope a business summit with Governor Pat Quinn Wednesday will persuade Quinn to halt his income tax hike proposal.

But State Senator Donne Trotter (D-Chicago), the Senate Democrats' budget negotiator, doesn't agree. He says this is the time when the state needs more revenue to help fund a building and construction program and help people who are in need.

Trotter and Rodogno agree on one thing: that a building and construction plan, or at least part of one, should pass in the next couple of weeks without any ties to the rest of the state budget.
