Accused Murderer Ready for Trial
A Galesburg man accused of shooting and killing a bar patron eight months ago will go to trial in just two weeks.

32-year old Marlon Brown was in Knox County Circuit Court Monday for his final pre-trial hearing, at which time he confirmed he wants a trial by jury on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and possession of a weapon by a felon. Brown was arrested last August 23rd, hours after a shooting at Andrews Lounge on West Brooks Street that left 29-year old Deriek Lawless dead.

Galesburg Police say Lawless had been in an altercation with another man shortly before 2 a.m. that day when Brown allegedly went up to Lawless, and shot him in the head.

Lawless was given first aid by bar patrons but was pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital.

Brown is scheduled to go to trial March 16th. He remains held in the Knox County Jail in the meantime on $ 1 millon bond.
