Fallen Soldier Schuyler Patch Returning Home to Kewanee Thursday Afternoon
The body of a Kewanee National Guardsman is scheduled to return home Thursday afternoon.

The Department of Defense says 25-year old Schuyler Patch and three other soldiers died February 24th in Kandahar, Afghanistan after the vehicle they were in set off an improvised explosive device. Patch's remains are expected to arrive at the Quad City International airport shortly after 2 p-m on Thursday. After a moment with his family, the soldier's body will be escorted to his hometown of Kewanee.

The procession will leave the airport for Kewanee via Routes 150, 81, 78, and 34 traveling through the communities of Coal Valley, Orion, Lynn Center, Andover, and Cambridge.

Upon arrival in Kewanee, Patch's family will make a brief stop in Veterans Park for a Hero's Welcome. The escort will then continue on to the Schueneman and Tumbleson Funeral Home in Kewanee.

Anyone who wants to show their support for Patch and his family are asked to gather along the procession route or in Veteran's Park no later than 2:30 p-m Thursday. Those who come out are also encouraged to bring an American flag or a sign showing their support.

Funeral services for Patch will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at the Wethersfield High School gymnasium. The school will open its doors at 9 a-m to allow members of the community to pay their respects.

Patch was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 106th Calvary Regiment, 33rd Infantry Brigade of the Illinois Army National Guard. His guard unit was based in Kewanee.
